We are excited to spotlight two of our major projects going on right now in Chicago, Illinois and in St. Louis, Missouri.
The US 41 (Skokie Highway) at Illinois 132 (Under the C7 Northwest Railroad) project required Phase III engineering services for the reconstruction of the bridge over the railroad tracks. Operating as a sub-consultant, ABNA proactively managed the field operation of the project by identifying and resolving project issues, ensuring that all work was in accordance with the contract documents, and preparing all required deliverables in accordance with IDOT procedures. The project involved coordination with multiple agencies including UPRR, Village of Gurnee, Lake County DOT, and various utility companies.
The I-270 Design-Build project is a $278M redevelopment of Interstate 270 located in North St. Louis County traverses from I-70 on the west to just shy of Riverview Drive before the Illinois state border on the east. This major D-B transportation overhaul will replace aged pavements and structurally deficient bridges, simpler geometrics, increase network reliability, improve accessibility for community bicycles and pedestrians, and enhance overall traffic operations and safety. ABNA led three significant sections of this project: the Bellefontaine Roundabout Design, the Southbound I-170 Widening Design, and the New Bonus Bridge Design.
ABNA’s responsibilities included fast-tracked transportation and structural engineering design to support the contractor. ABNA also provided Surveying such as easement preparation to advance the design and construction staking during the build. To meet the demands of this aggressive D-B schedule, ABNA’s dedicated designers prevailed with frequent communication, early coordination, and consistent design progress for this multimillion highly complex project.
