Project Description
The Washington Avenue Streetscape project revitalized a historic main street in downtown St. Louis. As the prime firm selected for this project ABNA’s team provided Surveying, Engineering & Construction Management Services.
ABNA’s Engineering Team was tasked with bridging the existing Washington Avenue streetscapes from both the East and West side into one seamless corridor. This included addressing various challenges such as restoring and updating sidewalks to current ADA standards; addressing underground conflicts including basements, utilities and the MetroLink Tunnel; and following MoDOT’s Engineering Policy Guidelines.
ABNA’s Survey Team conducted topographic survey using LiDAR scans of underground vaults and basements as well as boundary surveying. The ABNA Construction Management Team served as the City’s representative for administering the terms of the construction contract.
Improvements for this project included adding new ADA-compliant crosswalks, adjusting curbs, replacing sidewalks, replacing street lights with aesthetically pleasing roadway and pedestrian lighting, installing convenience outlets at tree wells, landscaping and adding street furniture.

In 2018, the ABNA Team was honored for their achievements on this project by The American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri (ACEC/MO) with its Engineering Excellence Award!
