Project Description

To accommodate O’Hare’s OMP North Detention Basin Expansion, ABNA provided design upgrades required for the adjacent existing Pump Station, its associated site amenities and the closed cell pre-cast revetment mat which connects to spillway structure #6. ABNA provided final construction drawings, technical specifications and opinion of probable costs as well as construction phase support for the pump station modifications in addition to a detailed report outlining the necessary recommendation for the revetment mat repairs. For the pump station, upgrades included plumbing and drainage system improvements such as the installation of ancillary connection fittings and piping and a polyethylene encased 8” diameter DIP force main tapped inside the pump station connecting to an existing 20” and 24” force main to allow oil water separator to act as part of the pump station and remove the by-pass function to the existing 20” force main; and new electrical work such as a new 15A circuit breaker and the integration of new control gate and check valves and tapping sleeve into the existing electrical control sequence. Additional responsibilities included the pump station access parking, coordination with CDA and MWRD, and pressure testing to ensure the pump station system’s success. During the evaluation of the revetment mat, a number of localized spot repairs were recommended to repair buckling, broken and displaced matting, broken cables, and crumbled geotextile fabric.
